Since the start of her project Global Mode in 2015, Eva Davidova has increasingly worked with the mixture of our human bodies with those of animals, and with the deceptive, nebulous body of “data”. Baffled by the depth of recurring monstrosities—and the ways in which they are further propagated by the broken links between our mental positions and our actual behaviors—Davidova examines our connections to them setting in motion an action, however (no matter how) absurd.
Bird Birth is a visceral image of the artist’s inescapable role in ecological disaster. Collapsing the remoteness between our actions and their outcome, this animation confronts the acceptance of our role as non-makers of reality, and the ideological room this acceptance makes for the cruelty we inflict upon nature and each other.
Birds Birth was presented at the Electric Breath program at ASU’s Emerge Festival, Proyecciones at the PHotoEspaña festival in Madrid, the Collapse of Vision exhibition at Equity Gallery in New York City and the Feelings festival in Syracuse.
